BEAUTY and MADNESS

“I learned that love can end in one night, that great friends can become great strangers, that strangers can become best friends, that we never finish to know and understand someone completely, that the “never ever again” will happen again and that “forever” always ends, that the one that wants it can, will achieve it and get it, that the one that risks it never loses anything.

Cheers to the beauty and madness of life!

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING (K-drama 2017)

While-You-Were-Sleeping-2017

A supernatural romance about a woman who can see the future in her dreams, and a prosecutor who fights to stop these future events from happening. The heroine has dreams about unfortunate events that will happen to other people, and the hero is a prosecutor who runs around trying to prevent her tragic visions from coming true.

Plot – I like the originality of the story.  I believed that the Writer knew exactly what she wanted to do with this drama. The thread of the story-line, the inserts of flashbacks, the major twist, the justice system, the romance which was not overbearing and the everyday life conflicts have been linked and incorporated in well-paced timed.

Characters – I am not surprised how Lee Jong-Suk portrays his character as a rookie prosecutor. He’s always been typecast in this field, so acting wise, he’s still the same; good and effective, I have nothing to complain.

I was totally surprised by Bae Suzy. Honestly, I don’t buy her acting skills, but in this drama, she perfectly acted out of her character. Her story was complexly written because she has to deal with tragedy and fear, and in fairness, she absolutely has done a good job.

Jung Hae-In, my god, his character was loved by everyone and I love him too more than Lee and Suzy. He is charming and loyal second lead that you will never ever hate. He doesn’t have to act all the way because his smiles and innocent look compels his character with outstanding morals despite uncertainties.

Lee Sang-Yeob , the main villain who truly highlighted his character to the end.  Every action of his greediness and wickedness makes so much sense on how the story drives into perfection.

The cinematography was astounding. Music was quite good. The chemistry of the two main leads is refreshing. Character development was consistent.

Since this drama has the element of fantasy, there some plot holes that have never explained which serves as the ground of understanding where was the fantasy begins and how it will end.

Nevertheless, this drama is one of the best. It gives us the message about the choices we made in our lives and how it affects to people around us. It signifies also the lesson that help begets help. The best and easiest way to help is to be of help.

Verdict: 9/10

HUMBLE and KIND

A kind reminder for all of us.

Who forgot where we came from. When we stop to be a little. When proudness gets into our head. When recognizing our self-became a priority than how we treat the others. When we no longer accept corrections. When we cannot give up our mountains of pride.

When we forgot to be humble and kind.

You know there’s a light that glows by the front door
Don’t forget the key’s under the mat
When childhood stars shine,
Always stay humble and kind

Go to church ’cause your mamma says to
Visit grandpa every chance that you can
It won’t be wasted time
Always stay humble and kind

Hold the door, say “please”, say “thank you”
Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie
I know you got mountains to climb
But always stay humble and kind

When the dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride
But always stay humble and kind

Don’t expect a free ride from no one
Don’t hold a grudge or a chip and here’s why:
Bitterness keeps you from flyin’
Always stay humble and kind

Know the difference between sleeping with someone
And sleeping with someone you love
“I love you” ain’t no pick-up line
So always stay humble and kind

When it’s hot, eat a root beer popsicle
Shut off the AC and roll the windows down
Let that summer sunshine
Always stay humble and kind

Don’t take for granted the love this life gives you
When you get where you’re going don’t forget turn back around
And help the next one in line
Always stay humble and kind

REPLY 1988 (K-drama) 2015

Answer Me 1988 001_zps2dq4l4ni

Five childhood friends, who all live in the same Ssangmundong neighborhood of Seoul, lean on each other to survive their challenging teen years and set a path for their futures.

Answer Me 1988 008_zpsue06nczd

Sung Deok Sun (Hyeri) struggles for attention as the middle child in her poor family while also carrying the burden of her 989th ranking in school. She is everyone’s trusted gal who shares her bright personality to all and shows her caring nature.

403c485c-ee60-432f-9e13-043520143344

Jung-Hwan (Ryoo Joon-Yeol) is the second son of the Kim family. His brother Jung Bong was born with a weak heart, so he decided to help him fulfill his dream, whatever that might be. As a typical teen, he grumbles and complains a lot, and it will take time to convinced him to say yes. He can’t seem to empathize and is always blunt with his words, but he has a good heart and always loyal to his family and friends.

Polaroid_SW

Sun-Woo(Ko Gyung-Pyo)is a model student at the school, good son and good brother at home. Sun-Woo’s mother has raised him and his younger sister alone after his father passed away.  Became a man of his house, he’s quite dependable, mature and responsible among his friends. He always tries to do right by everyone. He is considered as the ideal son of the neighborhood.

answer03-00680

Ryu Dong Ryong(Lee Dong-Hwi)is a geek who knows more about girls and life than the rest of his friends, but his poor academic score prevents him from being able to go to college. Though he is not an achiever academically, he is the wisest of all.  He’s the neighborhood counselor and the joker of the group.

Untitled

Choi Taek (Park Bo-Gum) is a famous BADUK player known as Master Choi, god to the world. But for his friends, he is simply as an idiot in Ssangmundong. Since he dropped out of school, Duk-Sun, Jung-Hwan, Sun-Woo and Dong-Ryong are his only friends.  They protected him as their National Treasure. They always shield him as the youngest one, the baby, and no one could touch and hurt him.

“That might be why youth is beautiful. Because it shines, blindingly bright at a brilliant short moment. But you can never go back to it.”

Certainly, we couldn’t return to our youth because everything just passes by and ages. And this drama makes you remember everything. It has this certain charm where you can always feel that you are part of their family household, that their parents are yours. You grew up with them lurking with memories of good and bad times. In that neighborhood, you waited for your secret crush to pass by,  dreaming of your first love, the walls that witness your first hug, first kiss, and even your first heartbreak.

In this drama, I have cried, laughed and fell in love instantly. I missed my family, my childhood friends, my all old memories.  Though I can still go back to my street where I grew up old, I cannot find the same faces, the familiar laughter, the nooks and corner where we used to play and the arguments we have solved. What has just left in that old street is the warm feeling of nostalgia, the sense of belongingness and the image of my precious child and youth memories.

Reply 1988 is a perfect drama for me. It tackles not only about the journey of their friendship but it showed problems of their families facing every day, the ups and downs of their lives. They truly emphasized the relationship between the parents and children and every emotion was raw and genuine.

Characters are perfect in this drama, truly are the heart of the entire show. Each of them is written well with so much thought.  They all have distinct personalities that are real and allows you to relate.

The Plot is uniquely presented in one setting and yet the development is spontaneous.  It does not become boring or trite, it’s not draggy at all. It was just so enjoyable to watch slowly while savoring each of their laughter and tears.

If you’d love to watch a drama about family and friendship, this surely is for you.  I recommend it with a full blast of assurance that you will totally get a whipped of laughter, tears and bittersweet aftertaste.

“The reason I miss that time and that street is not only because I miss my younger self. It is because my parents’ youth, my friends’ youth – the youth of everything I loved was in that place. I regret not bidding a final farewell to the surrounding of my youth that can never be brought back together again. To the things that have already gone, to the time I can’t return to… I bid my belated farewell. Goodbye, my youth. Goodbye, Ssangmun-dong” – Deok Sun

ODE TO BEER

You’re sparkly and light like a soda pop
But you fill my head with a fuzz
When I drink you, I never want to stop
I just want to keep building my buzz.

And at times, I cheat on you with whiskey
Sometimes vodka, tequila, or rum
But I know when I’m gone that you miss me
And I’m sorry for being so dumb.

You’re perfect for burgers or pizza
And sometimes, you’re great on your own
But when I drink, I usually don’t eat much
I’d rather get full on the foam.

Dear Beer, you are such an old, dear friend
I’ve known you and loved you so long
You’re always there for me to depend
Thank you sweet beer, and my bong.

BE FEARLESS TO BE CARELESS

20130315-213908

Once in a while, be fearless to be careless.

The less you care, the lesser your heart struggle.

Don’t spend too much of holding on to something that you knew it will never be yours.

Don’t let your heart be hustled of those feelings that are unsure.

Careless about those people who have no time to compromise their thoughts for you.

Careless about why someone is smarter than you.

Careless why it didn’t work out.

Let your heart skip a little beat and find your resting place.

Careless about the judgment of people. They’re going to judge you no matter what you do.

Careless about others’ business. Mind your own.

Careless if you have no special talent.

Careless about how horrible your boss is.

Careless about some rules, they are meant to break.

Be careless in your rambling thoughts, that’s how you feel.

Be wise enough to be fearless while being careless, we cannot do this every day in our life.  Be control because, at the end of the day, you are still the one responsible for your own feelings.

Be careless if you give your heart and they return it in pieces.

The less you give a damn, the happier you will be.

Don’t ever let anyone dull your sparkle. Try to keep it under your hat.

HOSPITAL SHIP (K-drama) 2017

5101_HospitalShip_Nowplay_Small

A story about young doctors that provide medical care to the locals who live in rural villages via hospital ship that sails around the little islands.

Main Cast: Ha Ji-won as Song Eun-Jae / Kang Min-hyuk as Kwak Hyun Lee Seo-won as Kim Jae-geol / Kim In-sik as Cha Joon-young.

I really like the premise of this drama; the adrenaline and the setup, as well as the introduction of the characters, were quite interesting. I cannot ignore the excitement for the whole team in the ship and was looking forward to their very own adventure.

However, forty episodes (30 mins. per episode) were too long for this drama, my excitement dies after facing some major flaws; unmoving short love triangle, the unnecessary comeback of retard ex-lover, and some hospital politics.  I would love to like the story if they just concentrate more about life on the ship which will accomplish the story itself to be unique and appealing.

Good points are; beautiful settings of the sea and island, their service for elderly patients, family matters resolved, the friendship, teamwork and pretty faces.

The hospital ship is now to disembark. Thank you.

RELAY FOR LIFE

Relay for life took place for the first time in the UAE last November 17-18, 2017. This relay is a team fundraising event where team members take turns walking around a track for 24 hours. Each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps. Cancer patients don’t stop because they’re tired, and for one night, neither do we.

Since our company was one of the sponsors, we are able to participate the event as to celebrate cancer survivors and carers; remember loved ones lost to cancer, and fight back by raising awareness and funds to support the work of Friends of Cancer Patients.

The Taxi Driver (K-movie) -2017

A-Taxi-Driver

In May 1980, German reporter Peter (Thomas Kretschmann) works on an assignment in Tokyo, but the news is slow there. He hears from a colleague that something ominous is occurring in Gwangju, South Korea. The phone lines have been completely cut off to the city. Peter decides to go there.

In Seoul, South Korea, Kim Man-Seob (Song Kang-Ho) struggles to make ends meet as a taxi driver, while also taking care of his daughter. He needs money to pay his rent. At a restaurant, Kim Man-Seob overhears that a foreigner is offering to pay a lot of money to be driven to Gwangju. The drive would cover Kim Man-Seob’s rent. He dashes out of the restaurant to pick up the foreigner.

Soon, Peter and Kim Man-Seob head for Gwangju from Seoul. They don’t know what is going on there or the countless lives that will soon be lost.

This film shows the underline brutality inflicted on the people of Gwangju where the highly trained military troops firing the bullets to their own people instead of protecting them. It impressed me the moment when Kim Man-Seob struggled to follow his conscience or not, further, the breathless escape which packed with a bang shouldn’t be missed.

Without a second thought, Taxi Driver is one of the best South Korean films I have seen to date. From the narration, presentation, and execution, everything is almost perfect. Thanks to Kim Man-Seob (Song Kang-Ho) who connects our emotions through his versatility as the film progresses. And of course, bravo to the rest of the supporting cast, who spices the story into a more memorable experience.

Verdict: 10/10

ALL BY YOURSELF

“And I realized that some things just don’t work that way. Life isn’t a fairy tale. And the person you fall in love with doesn’t always love you back. But that’s ok because at the very least it makes you stronger and brings you to a place where you can fall in love with yourself.

And that to me is more important than finding someone that only makes you complete when they are around, it’s really about finding the person that will teach you ALL the lessons you need to know so that you feel complete all by yourself. ”

PARK OF LAUGHTER

Goodbye summer. Hello, winter.

Al Mamzar Park is my favorite beach park here in Dubai.  They have all the facilities you needed for; beach amenities,  barbeque areas, swimming pools, children game areas and etc. Entrance fees are reasonable for AED 5 per person, AED 30 per car and free for people with special needs and kids below 2 years old.

If you don’t want to mingle with the big crowd, it is better to go on weekdays (Sunday-Thursday) and Saturday.  Friday is too crowded since it’s a weekend here in Dubai.

Let’s enjoy the beach! the weather is kinda super nice.

BECAUSE I LOVE YOU (K-movie 2017)

Because_I_Love_You_(Korean_Movie)-p3

On the way to meet his girlfriend, Lee Hyung(Cha Tae-Hyun) gets into a car accident. He wakes up to find himself in a different body and with no memory of his life.  He then met Scully(Kim You-Jung), a high school student, who helped him when his spirit has been switching into the body of random strangers: a high-school pregnant girl, a middle-aged busy detective, a grandmother who has dementia, a lonely teacher, and a music producer. Well, I found the story with the elderly people the most moving and heartfelt. (spoiler)

In short, our protagonist plays Cupid in this fantasy drama.  Each of his encounters gives him the experiences to love at all ages. He supports comfort and redemption to love for each character which made this movie interesting, heartwarming and sweet.

The plot is quite unusual in a good sense and even though it was a slow-paced movie, I still appreciate it even with their limited time because it was played relatably for pleasure. The actors were great though I have seen some new faces, acting was not too bad and the music was so cool.

I will recommend this movie because they presented it in a very beautiful manner. Enjoy!

CAN YOU HANDLE THE TRUTH?

Please tell me the truth.

I want the answer.

The truth will set you free.

We are always looking for the truth, whether we like it or not.  We think that this will eradicate our suspicions, our troubled mind, jumbled feelings, to the point that we believed the truth will straighten out everything to rightness.

The question is, can you handle the truth, the circumstances after knowing the truth? Can you accept it? Like it will strip all the lies you believed in and clean out all intoxicated madness you are feeling?  Are you ready to believe it and never be confused again? Are you going to forgive?

Let us be reminded,  to know the truth is not always to put you in a situation where you can acknowledge everything in one time.  It’s more than widening your mind and heart.  But when you attain it, then it will set you free or else you will be wrecked into pieces-again.

Here’s my favorite scene from my favorite movie “A few good men.”

Jessep: You want answers?
Kaffee (Tom Cruise): I think I’m entitled to them.
Jessep: You want answers?
Kaffee: I want the truth!
Jessep: You can’t handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who’s gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago’s death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives…You don’t want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.
We use words like honor, code, loyalty…we use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use ’em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I’d rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you’re entitled to!

Kaffee: Did you order the code red?
Jessep: (quietly) I did the job you sent me to do.
Kaffee: Did you order the code red?
Jessep: You’re goddamn right I did!!

The Battleship (K-movie) 2017

fullsizephoto871813

During the Japanese colonial era, roughly 400 Korean people, who were forced onto Battleship Island to mine for coal, attempt to escape.

I’ll be straight,  the film was breathtaking. It was very engaging and I was speechless until it ends.  Honestly, I don’t know anything about Hashima Island and the coal mines that were operated by the Japanese during the 1940s, but I wasn’t surprised of the brutality shown during this occupational era.  Throughout the show, you can see the distressing situation of many Koreans ended up in a forced labor camp where men do hard toil in the mines while the women end up as comfort women for the Japanese.

I define this movie in the sense of power against the weak and poor, the betrayal and patriotism.  The hopelessness of people and the struggle for survival. This film gives us the image of what a devastating and triumphant escape looks like by those Korean workers who just wanted to be released and set home.

Admirable performances were delivered by Hwang Jung-Min, So Ji-Sub and Song Joong-Ki. They have played their roles perfectly. The most memorable part of the story is the father-daughter relationship between a bandleader (Hwang Jung Min) and his daughter (Kim Soo An).

Battleship Island has some plot points that impossible to believe, but this film still an exceptional. The cinematography is stunning coupled with a solid and talented cast. You shouldn’t miss it.

Verdict 10/10

REAL PLAY

“Look at children. Of course they may quarrel, but generally speaking they do not harbor ill feelings as much or as long as adults do.

Most adults have the advantage of education over children, but what is the use of an education if they show a big smile while hiding negative feelings deep inside?

Children don’t usually act in such a manner. If they feel angry with someone, they express it, and then it is finished. They can still play with that person the following day.”

May we always have the sense into our inner child’s heart.

DON’T CALL IT QUITS

I think I have learned anything about friendship, it’s to hang in, stay connected, fight for them, and let them fight for you. Don’t walk away, don’t be distracted, don’t be too busy or tired, don’t take them for granted. True friendship reveals itself through adversity.

Mood of the Day (K-movie 2016)

5b8436_24184a20d1854c2dacd9ef4a17436385

By chance, a man and a woman meet on the KTX train and spend 24 hours in the unfamiliar city of Busan, South Korea.

One night stand is a typical story used in many dramas or movies, but in reality it will never serve a good baseline for any romantic relationship. That’s kind of the whole point. But in Mood of the Day, it drives you right into the actual scenes of the story, no confusion and no major complications.

The characters of our main cast and their relationships are developed at a great pace. I would say they’re very well much in their role. Though there are minor elements resulted in some cliché, I decided not to mind them because there’s a heartwarming scenes for all those who yearn for a bit of romance and love.

Aside from that, sceneries in this movie are no joke, it was all breathtaking. They captured the beauty of autumn perfectly in Busan. And take note, Yoo Yeon Seok is one of the best and hottest kissers among Korean actors. You will definitely enjoy seeing him kissing to Moon Chae-Won.

I recommend this movie for those who have no issue in life and just want to have a good mood for the day.

Verdict: 8/10
