Cha Yo-Han (Ji Sung) is a doctor of anesthesiology. He is arrogant, but he is a genius at his work. Kang Shi-Young (Lee Se-Young) is a resident of anesthesiology who works with Cha Yo-Han. She is smart, warm and listens carefully to her patients. People, with mysterious acute or chronic pain, come to the hospital. There, Cha Yo-Han and Kang Shi-Young try to find the causes of their pain.
Though I am a big fan of Ji Sung and have a high expectation of all his drama, I could say that this one still didn’t let me down. Acting-wise, haven’t seen flaws in him. He’s just getting better and better, as usual phenomenal.
Dr. John is a story about pain and what it really means is. A doctor who is committed to abating the burden of his patients despite his personal battle. This drama has presented one of the very controversial topics, Euthanasia, which I can hardly decide if it is wrong or not, and I think the argument will last for a long time. Whatever it is, this drama will not try to complicate your belief, instead, they maintain the theme, the dignity and moral of the story.
This drama separates itself from every other medical show because it focuses on Anesthesiology instead of typical emergency doctors. The illness they have presented are not new to me like CIPA, a disorder of the nervous system which prevents the feeling of pain or temperature, and prevents a person from sweating. There is so many interesting and informative topic you can learn from this drama and you will realize how nice it is to be healthy and alive.
The cast was lovely to watch. They have the best second lead too. The characters have their own kind of individuality, but support one another’s aspect. There are some comedic moments and it didn’t seem out of place. The chemistry of both protagonists was at best despite their age gap difference, you’ll never notice because visually they look good together.
Don’t miss this medical drama if you are up to this kind of genre. And it’s Ji Sung, common support my loveable Ajussi 🙂
