BLACK (K-drama 2017)

black-beulraek

A drama about the angel of death that lives in the human body and falls in love with a woman. His love is against the rules of heaven and ultimately the death angel will be erased from everyone’s memories.

Black (Song Seung-Heon) is a detective possessed by a death angel. Ha Ram (Go Ara) is a girl who can see the shadows of death. Both are united to save people from death, breaking all the rules of heaven.

BLACK is the master of a plot twist. They turned the puzzle on your head which makes it so compelling and at the same time, you gonna hate it for its craziness and complexity. See, got a mixed feeling of this thrilling drama, but I just couldn’t ignore it.

In this drama, you have to pay close attention, because the story is lying not into the obvious up front, but there are more of deeper events, connections, and people that are going to reveal as the episodes turned into beautiful messiness. Meaning, there are a lot of things and people to keep track in every episode and when you thought everything is gonna to be solved, boom! another twist will appear.

I love everything about it; the story, the actors, and even their plot holes. Even with the flaws, it is one of the best stories I have ever watched. The complex and the intertwined storyline makes the ride worth watching. It’s a thrilling adventure for me more than just a viewer, I feel like I was part of the show, solving the mysteries with them.

Be Black, be thrilled.

Verdict: 9/10

SOMETHING TO YEARN

Three days ago was my 39th birthday.  Before I decided to celebrate and be the spotlight of the day, I was pondering little things about what this year is going to bring.  I think, the feelings raised from being nostalgic, I just returned from my vacation in the Philippines and I’ve been feeling gloomy for weeks.

When my father asked me when will I settle back in the Philippines, I have nothing to answer. It’s not the first time I have asked, some friends do the same questioning too. Honestly, I really want to stay for good. I have never liked going back and forth carrying the same baggage of longing and sadness. Even for nine years of hello and goodbye, still, the feeling is the same – tragic.

Then I ask myself, when? what are my plans? now that I am not getting any younger, must have laid the things to be done and be prepared.  Well, there are so many things to do, plans? I have more on the list, I just don’t know how and when to start. Am I lacking inspiration? Maybe financial incapacity? or am I just scared to take risks and frightened to feel regrets? But no matter how much I think, I still couldn’t fathom.

I believe there is no perfect outcome when it comes to what we should do with our lives because sometimes what we have planned is not will happen, and that frustrates us more. But I know every person has “something” that keeps them on their toes, gives them a high, and keeps them thrilled. We just don’t need to stop looking and making it happen.

For another year that God gave me, I am with gratefulness. I still have something that my heart wants to do, and I will never stop yearning. I know, that when the perfect time comes, everything will be spontaneous with God’s grace.

Happy new life to all of us!

TREAT ME LIKE.

I know that treating someone how they treat you is passive-aggressive behavior, meaning we are not being honest at all about our own feelings. Simply, we are just reacting to what happens around us without being open and facing the issues.  At some point in our life, we are guilty of this behavior, possibly because when we have treated badly, we want to pay them back, and of course, they don’t like it, just like we don’t.

They said, how others treat you is a reflection and we teach others how to treat us.  Some people interpret and understand the behavior of others, and some cannot.

Now, it is in our responsibility to allow or not to allow such nerve breaking treatment and it’s up to us if we are going to clear and let them understand how we want to be treated, or just continuously treat them the way they have treated us.

You will be the one to decide after all.

ROOFTOP PRINCE (K-drama 2012)

Ofiicial-Mainpage-3

After the death of the Crown Prince Lee Kak’s wife, the Crown Prince transports 300 years into the future and arrives in 21st century Seoul, South Korea with his retainers. In the present day Seoul, the Crown Prince meets Joo Se-Na, who has an uncanny resemblance to his deceased Princess.

Rooftop Prince has always been my FIRST LOVE.

The story is indeed full of surprises, u-turns and even revelations that would soak your heart with excitement and attention. Happy scenes are overwhelming too, it was full of passion, sweet and the romance was epic.

I would love to take some notes of the scenes that I think is poignant and unforgettable.

Image
The Crown Prince and his gang.
The time when the Joseon boys time traveled from 300 years back to modern life.  It was all then started their various misadventures.
Who would forget this funny scene inside the elevator? It was so hilarious!
The two people brought by FATE even it would take a hundred years.

He was looking lovingly, right at her, while in the same moment, she was stunned speechless as she watched him fade in and out of sight.

This got me right in the heart.

Some people say that the ending is vague, as they let the viewers find their own thoughts and conclusion. For me, Although the Prince thought his mission was to solve the princess’ murder, it was really to meet Park Ha in another dimension. The story has just ended up really being about the love between a Joseon prince and his true love lady.

I would love to watch this drama again.

Verdict: 10/10

NEW YOU

Burying something is quite backbreaking, but if we wanted to change ourselves to a new “me”, then let’s claim the certainty.

I appreciate the bad and the good events in my life. I appreciate the people around me; my family, friends, workmates, and strangers. I appreciate what I had and couldn’t have.

Thank you, Lord, for everything! The last year was challenging but full of blessings.

Happy New Year everyone!!

Love Rain (K-drama 2012)

502692

It’s love at first sight when Seo In-ha (Jang Keun-suk) and Kim Yoon-hee (Im Yoon-ah) meet as shy university students in the seventies. It takes time for the hesitant pair to finally voice their feelings, but circumstances beyond their control send them down different paths. In 2012, In-ha (Jung Jin-young) is now unhappily married to Baek Hye-jung, one of Yoon-hee’s former best friends. He has never gotten over his first love, and when he runs into Yoon-hee (Lee Mi-sook) after so many years, the two reconcile and look forward to making up for lost time.

In-ha’s son Seo Joon (Jang Keun-suk) is a photographer, and he bumps into Yoon-hee’s daughter Jung Ha-na (Im Yoon-ah) by chance. Unlike her mother, Ha-na is a cheerful and vivacious girl, and though they initially find each other troublesome, even as they argue, they can’t help but be drawn to each other. Gradually their feelings develop, and Joon and Ha-na fall in love.Unaware that their children are dating each other, Seo In-ha (Jung Jin-young) and Kim Yoon-hee (Lee Mi-sook) announce that they are getting married, which will make Joon and Ha-na step-siblings. As both couples deal with the shock, Joon and Ha-na struggle with sacrificing their love for their parents’ long-aborted happiness

Love Rain starts very well and ends with a satisfactory appeal.

The setting from 1970’s, the customs, the hair, the clothing is fantastically perfect for me. Jumping to the year 2012, the storyline made me smile. Despite the low rating presented and negative reviews, for me, It has a warming style and quite nostalgic. What I like about this drama is the romantic excitement from several episodes which gladdens my heart and tickled my bone. This matters to me most.

CHILDREN’S MAGIC

No doubt, our days have been occupied with a lot of things for Christmas celebration, and oftentimes we lost sight of the real meaning of it. Christmas, as we all know, is the celebration of the birth of our Jesus Christ and we should remind ourselves that this season brings magic to the eyes of Children.

Let’s surround ourselves with them and get infected with their real joy and excitement.

Indeed, Christmas is truly blessed when we still have the same warm feelings we had as Children. Enjoy the season and be like a happy child. ❤️

TO LOVE IS TO BE VULNERABLE

To love at all is to be vulnerable.

Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrong and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness.

But in that casket-safe, dark, motionless, airless–it will not change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, and irredeemable.

I Miss You (K-drama 2012)

i-miss-you-poster2

My first Korean drama that I have never expected to be a teary filled ride.

“I miss you” is an emotional story with very serious issues and ended up too much tragedy. There were too many complications to handle and I feel like carrying the burdens too while watching it.

I don’t consider the plot amazingly written, but the chemistry between the actors, the portrayed characters, the cinematography, and costumes are all wonderfully set. I wouldn’t watch this drama again because of this excessive emotional ride I had to experience, but overall, it was still good and the finale was pretty satisfying, everyone deserves a new life.

CHRISTMAS IN THE PHILIPPINES

It’s my second Christmas here in the Philippines after nine years of working as an expat from Dubai. Obviously, there is no holiday celebration from any Middle East County, as far as I know, some Christian employees still tend to work on Christmas day, lucky for those who can excuse themselves from their employers and have a considerate co-worker to change shifts is a plus.

I feel favored that I can still go home without any issues from my workplace.  I cannot compare the celebration here with family and old friends, than in a place surrounded by fabulous lights and mighty buildings, but cannot see those familiar faces I long to be with.

So what it is like to celebrate Christmas in the Philippines? How do we Filipinos celebrate?

Well, I think nothing is different aside from that we welcome the spirit of Christmas from the first day of September (BER months) and does not end until the first week of January.  We begin to decorate the houses, establishments, and streets with Christmas ornaments. You can even hear early Christmas songs played on the radio and in the shopping malls.

Christmas Party and gift giving are always part of the Christmas celebration. Parties are celebrated with friends, business institutions, family gathering, and reunions.

While some are familiar with the Western tradition of leaving empty socks or stockings for Santa Claus to fill up with goodies while being a good kid.  Filipinos also have some customs and traditions on how we enjoy this season.

Simbang Gabi or Misa De Gallo.

simbang-gabi

One of the oldest Christmas traditions of Pinoy.  It is the nine-day dawn masses that start on December 16 and end on Christmas Day. We believe that when we complete the 9 straight days of Simbang Gabi, God will grant our prayers.

Caroling.

I love this when I was still young.  We are always excited when September comes. From our neighborhood to another street, we never get tired of visiting different houses while singing all the Christmas songs again and again just to receive a pamasko (cash gift).

Monito Monita.

img_6041-2

One of the exciting activities at Christmas is the exchange gifts. Each participant has his/her own secret Santa who gives them gifts. This could be done in schools, homes, organizations, friends, and community.

Christmas is much celebrated everywhere in the world and it is unique among all the holidays and birthdays that we recognize. Why, because Christmas is not all about the gifts under the tree, the cash bonus we may receive from our employers, who has the best Christmas decorations, the dinner celebration, but it’s all about the season of great joy, where God shows his great love to us.

PLAYFUL KISS (K-drama 2010)

a0278826_2212076.jpg

Based on the popular manga, Oh Ha Ni is a clumsy student who falls for the perfectionist, Baek Seung Jo. However, Seung Jo is indifferent towards her and rejects her love. When Ha Ni’s house collapses, she and her father move into his long-time friend’s house. It turns out that Seung Jo is the friend’s son and Ha Ni is given the opportunity to be near the guy she loves.

There really isn’t much I can say about this drama other than the plot is shallow, but the characters were fun and cute. I think it was enough to justify the show when you expressly enjoyed only the pretty faces of the actors.

In this drama, all you can do is just sit back, don’t mind the empty shell of the story, feel the spirit of being young at heart and enjoy some of the exciting lovely moments.

Going Home

I arrived at the Philippine airport safely and sound. The eight hours travel was quite good and smooth, thanks be to God. But unfortunately, my domestic flight (Manila to Davao City) was canceled and have to wait for another eight hours or to be a lucky chance passenger I could hope for.

I really wanted to be furious to my travel agent who wasn’t able to rebook my ticket earlier. I wanted to blame the airline for giving us this trouble not only because we are tired, but we couldn’t afford to waste a single day, you know we treat our Christmas vacation with a high importance.

But of course, we cannot control everything. I can’t manage my travel agent’s carelessness, the fact that I may never know what was going on in the aircraft too. We cannot control what is going to happen, but we can control our reaction, right?

So I’m totally fine and I will not fight with anyone, even my ass is aching from sitting, my legs are hurting, my body is shivering and my eyes are dying to sleep. Instead, I would think that my family is patiently waiting for me.

I’m going home to the place where I belong.

TYPES OF FRIENDS I CAME ACROSS

I believe that Friends just kind of happen. Life without them would definitely be boring. There are few special friendships last a lifetime, some, unfortunately, take years to fade away while others end dramatically. It’s an interesting process in life, right? whether we like it or not, we have come to realize which friendship deserve nurture and which are a slog.

So what kinds of friends I came across until this moment? here’s my list.

The Parent figure – Just like our Parent, this person is refined when it comes to being truthful and honest. They can tell you directly anything under the sun, and therefore you can always rely on them to seek good advice.

Friends who are up for anything – This is a bunch of friends who are always willing to try anything out of their comfort zone. They are always available to be dragged on.

The funny one – A friend who does silly things, they have a talent for quick and witty jokes. The one will have you laughing until you are crying with laughter.

The emotional one – They are expressive and very open about their feelings. They are the ones who will cry first before you do.

The friend that’s always “on the way” – A friend who is always late and never apologize for it. The reason why you have to schedule the time earlier than the expected.

Friends who are loyal –  The hardest one to find. A nonjudgmental friend who will accept you no matter what. They don’t care about your reputation or any mistakes, you have made. They know all of your deepest and darkest secrets, but still, love you all the same.

Brutally Friend – They are the ones who speak with their minds, not in a sarcastic way. They tend to be honest about what they feel and think of you.

The BFF – I believe that this is someone I choose to be my second family. They called it  Friendships of the good which is based on respect, appreciation, honesty, acceptance, and love.

Friends who make the effort – A friend who would always make an effort and offer their time to meet, to talk and bond.  They usually remind us that friendship should not be forgotten, but to be nurtured.

The strong one – Someone who is not good to argue and fight with, they will not leave you behind without getting any what they want. In good side, they are the one who will fight for you and go with you in a battle.

Sullen Friend – They are the ones who are grumpy, sulky, gloomy, sour, or moody.  In short, they bring negativity.

I know everything – This is an arrogant attitude which is simply annoying. A friend who would think everything he/she thinks are right and will always insist on it.  They are the ones who don’t accept other’s opinions because they think they are always right and they know everything, well except themselves.

The High Level – A friend who thinks he/she is greater than any friend he/she has. They hate to be criticized, they don’t want to hear someone saying anything bad about them.  They condemn disapproval.  They always wanted to be the center of the attention.

I don’t care – The cool ones I believed. They just follow the flows without complaining, they don’t care if you hated them then love them again. They don’t like dramas so they either ignore you or talk to you directly, then forget the issue.

The happy ones – The kind of friend we will love most I believed.  They are the ones who change the gloomy side to positivity.  They will drag you up and let you see the brighter side.

There are so many kinds of friends I have met, I think I forgot to include some on the list. Most of these friends I came across are still with me and a few of them left from my life, for good. It is really true that true friendship is hard to find, develop and keep.

As they say “a friend will tell you what you want to hear, but a good friend will always tell you what you need to hear”

So let’s say thank you to our friends who bring our life into happiness and bid a happy goodbye who lose their way with us.

RESCUE YOURSELF

“It has always been simple, but making it hard was always your way of avoiding pain. If you want to change your life, you have to change what you are doing. It wasn’t his fault, her fault, their fault or the circumstances. It was your inability to choose.

Somewhere in that crazy mind of yours, time stopped. You thought someone would rescue you, but they didn’t. You have to rescue yourself. This is not a fire you can put out; you have to walk through it, in order to reach life. Getting burned is apart of growth, didn’t you know?”

WITH A SMILE

Lift your head, baby, don’t be scared
Of the things that could go wrong along the way
You’ll get by with a smile
You can’t win at everything but you can try.

Baby, you don’t have to worry
‘Coz there ain’t no need to hurry
No one ever said that there’s an easy way.

When they’re closing all their doors
And they don’t want you anymore
This sounds funny but I’ll say it anyway.

I’ll stay through the bad times
Even if I have to fetch you every day.
We’ll get by with a smile
You can never be too happy in this life.

In a world where everybody
Hates a happy ending story
It’s a wonder love can make the world go round
But don’t let it bring you down
And turn your face into a frown
You’ll get along with a little prayer and a song.

Lift your head, baby, don’t be scared
Of the things that could go wrong along the way
You’ll get by with a smile
Now it’s time to kiss away those tears goodbye.
